Experienced. Respected. Trusted.
MEET ROY TAYLOR
Roy Taylor has more than 40 years of experience in law enforcement. A former Wake County Deputy, Roy has patrolled the roads to protect our community. He is a Chief of Police; a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and has a doctorate in criminal justice.
Roy Taylor is capable and competent. He knows how to manage budgets, grants and personnel, and will show the deputies and detention officers the dignity and respect they deserve.
Top Priority
One of my top priorities if elected Sheriff of Wake County will be working to improve our county’s mental health care safety net.
I want to have a team of mental health care specialists to serve in the Sheriff’s Office to work with our front-line deputies responding to crisis calls such as suicide attempts, overdoses, and domestic violence cases so they can work with the residents to assist them in finding the help they need – rather than have a law enforcement action such as incarceration.
We need to make sure all county agencies coordinate efforts to assist and care for those who struggle with mental health issues. It is essential to provide care rather than locking them up in jail, worsening their problems.
I want to work with our County Commissioners and County Manager to develop an innovative approach to providing care and assistance to those who need it. Working to address the mental health issues in our county will help usher in a new era of law enforcement for Wake County.

Pledge

Wake County citizens deserve a capable, competent Sheriff.
Hello, I’m Roy Taylor, and I’m running for Sheriff of Wake County as a Democrat.
Practically every week, we see headlines out of the Sheriff’s Office that question the competence and leadership of our current Sheriff.
Whether it is managing the budget, facing personnel lawsuits, overseeing the county’s gun range, or staffing of-patrol deputies, the Sheriff’s office is in decline.
If you elect me as your Sheriff, here’s what I will do:
- I will increase the number of road patrol deputies.
- I will advocate for pay raises for all deputies, detention officers, and administrative staff
- I will work to revamp our civil division to improve the efficiency of our deputies serving court-orders
- Finally, I will improve in-service training to ensure the sanctity of human life and the rights, liberties, and dignity of all persons is safeguarded.
Competent, capable leadership. That’s what my campaign is all about.
I look forward to talking with you on the campaign trail.
